UN Says Syria In Full-Scale Civil War As Rebels Launch Massive Offensive

The head of the UN peacekeeping mission in Syria says the nation is now in a full blown civil war as the US and Russia accuse each other fueling the violence.

Syria has plunged into a full-scale civil war – so says the head of the UN peacekeeping operation there. He added that fighting had reached a previously unseen ferocity, as government forces seek to blunt a nationwide offensive by the rebels, who had withdrawn from the internationally-backed ceasefire.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is alleging that a new shipment of attack helicopters were en-route from Russia to Syria, but refused to reveal her sources only saying the it would lead to a dramatic escalation of the crisis.

The Pentagon was subsequently put in an awkward position, admitting it had no knowledge of any such shipment.

Russia has in turn accused the United States of supplying arms and money to the rebels to promote regime change in a move that is working against the UN peace plan.

The escalation of the conflict comes after western journalists say rebels set them up to be murdered by the Syrian government so they could use the incident for propaganda purposes.
