Syrian Deputy Health Minister Assassinated By Militants

Syria’s Deputy Health Minister Ma’moun al-Zoubi has been assassinated in the country’s southwestern city of Dara’a.

Press TV – Zoubi was assassinated on Tuesday after a number of insurgents attacked him upon leaving the Health Directorate building.

The armed men opened fire on the official at the building’s garage and stole his car.

Syria has experienced deadly unrest since mid-March, 2011 and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the armed militants are foreign nationals.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on August 1 that the country is engaged in a ”crucial and heroic” battle that will determine the destiny of the nation.
