NJ has announced very dire conditions are expected from Irene- The Military Is Evacuating Cape May because models show it will be under water, stations are out of Gas, and the Parkway is to shutdown at 8 PM

I just caught the last minutes of a live news briefing with NJ governor Chris Christie. The latest advisory from the National hurricane center put the state on hurricane watch with storm surges forecasted to be up to 6 feet along the coast up to Sandy Hook

Here are highlights from the last moments of the briefing I caught. I will add more when I find out what I missed at the beginning of the conference.

  • ACES is shutting down tonight
  • NJ Transit trains shut down tomorrow
  • Military Evacuating From Cape May, Models show it Will Be Underwater.
  • NJ Parkway To Shut Down South Of Exit 98 At 8PM Tonight
  • NJ Gas Stations Out Of Gas As Residents Prepare To Evacuate.
  • Residents Are Urged to acquire food and water to survive for at least 5 days.
  • If winds speeds get high enough, Oyster Creek and other electrical power plants will be shut down as a precautionary measure.

Also Atlantic City casinos will shut down by 8 p.m. Friday – and will likely stay closed through the weekend.

In New York

  • NY Governor Cuomo orders NYC bridges to shut down if winds exceed 60 MPH, including the George Washington and Tappan Zee bridges.
  • Mandatory evacuation will be ordered at 3 p.m. today for NY’s Fire Island; last ferry expected between 3 and 4 p.m. tomorrow.
  • Cuomo also announced New York City subway system to shut down at noon on Saturday in preparation for Irene.

In Pennsylvania

    • Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter says transit services will be shut down Sunday at 12:30 a.m.
    • Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett declaring state of emergency as Hurricane Irene
