Breaking – Massive Tornado Ripping Through Dallas Texas

This is a breaking news alert – check back for updates

An immediate shelter in place order is in effect as a multiple massive tornado with 130 plus mile an hour winds are ripping through in the Dallas Texas area.

Widespread damage and injuries have now been confirmed.

The tornado is tossing around tractor and tailors like they a child throws around toy trick and a massive ball of debris has been picked up on radar.

6:04 PM– A new tornado watch has been issued for over eastern Texas until 11pm.

6:00 PM – A new tornado warning has been issued for Bowie and Red River County Texas. A tornado and damage has been reported in Titus Co., TX. with a separate storm system near Dalby Springs.

5:54 PM – Red River and Hunt County Tornado warnings remain in effect. Storm system is now 11 miles southwest of Bogata.

5:51 PM – Shelter in place issued for Greenville Texas with a warning the tornado is likely rain-wrapped and still moving Northeast at 35mph.

5:42 PM – Emergency management reports homes leveled on Poetry Rd. south of Royse City, TX and responders are now performing search and rescue the tornado is near Greenville, TX now.

5:38 PM – A large and extremely dangerous tornado is now 7 miles southwest of Greenville Texas and moving northeast at 35 mph. There are warnings that the tornado is being hidden by a heavy wall of rain

5:35 PM – A tornado has been reported east of Royse City Texas. Forecasters warn Caddo Mills and Cash in Hunt County Texas lie directly in the path this tornado!

5:29 PM – CNN is reporting there have been many injuries including several in Kennedale. There are no confirmed injuries. Southern Dallas county has received the brunt of the damage and there are widespread reports of flooding. Warnings have been lifted for central Texas and have moved to North-Central Texas. Meteorologists are also warning that there may be storms behind the storms that have already caused damage.

Video from CNN affiliate WFAA broadcast dramatic footage of the scene, showing tractor trailers being lifted and tossed through the air like matchsticks. Ominous clouds filled the skies, making it as dark as night. The network showed roofs of homes ripped off and trailers turned on their sides.

5:23 PM – Arlington has declared a state of emergency as Texas counties are reporting absolute devastation. The weather is still to severe for helicopters to flyover the areas and asses the damage.

5:02 PM – Collin, Rockwall, Hunt counties have a tornado warning in effect as a tornado with strong rotation has been reported. The storm is very dangerous moving northeast at 30 mph. The national weather services is warning that I-30 will be hit between mile markers 62 and91.

4:59 PM – The Forney, TX Tornado is confirmed on the ground and will effect I-30 between mile markets 50 and 52 and I-635 between mile markets 14 and 18. The Tornado is moving northeast at 30 miles and hour is currently hitting McLendon-Chisolmand and Fate, Texas right now.

Highland Park, just north of Dallas is now seeing the last line of storms moving across that area. They are storm cells are severe but no tornado warning has been issued for that area.

4:51 PM – CNN is reporting a new and much larger tornado has now developed in the Dallas area. There are reports of widespread damage and gas lines leaking from destroyed homes.

4:39 PM – 2 New tornadoes have been reported. The first is 9 Miles southwest of Sulphur Springs and moving northeast. The second has been spotted in Forney, Texas in Kaufman Co. A shelter in place warning has been issued along with a new tornado warning for Delta & Hopkins counties.

4:33 PM – The Dallas county sheriff has reported a series of tornadoes have touched down in Lancaster and Wilmer just south of Dallas. The sheriff is warning that the police have there hands full and can not get out to help everyone. They are requesting everyone remain sheltered in place until the storm passes.

4:30 PM – The Dallas Forth Worth airport has issued a warning that they are not out of danger. Several storm cells are expected to pass over the airport over then next 1 to 2 hours any of which could develop into a tornado and may also bring severe winds and developing hail.

4:29 PM – New Tornado warning issued for Mesquite Texas area.

4:25 PM – CNN is reporting the tornado threat in the Dallas Fort worth area is likely to persist for the next 1 to 2 hours and is warning residents to remain on alert as new tornado warnings can be issued at any moment as meteorologists continue to watch the storm system.

4:18 PM – Tornado warning has been reissued for the Dallas county as a new circulation is detected on the radar. Kaufman and Rockwall Counties are included in the new warning which has been issued until until 5:00 pm.

4:10PM – Severe tornado damage has now been confirmed in the Arlington Texas area. There is also severe damage confirmed in Kennedale, TX which has a population of about 7,000. Injuries of an an unknown extent are now being reported. Tornado warnings have been canceled for Dallas, Collins and Tarrat counties. Severe weather is still possible in the areas.

3:57 PM – Tornado warnings issued currently in effect until 4:30 PM est for Hunt, Delta and Hopkins County Texas as strong circulations are detected. Chad Meyers is now telling the news crew on the ground he is watching a new tornado develop on the radar screen right in front of them on I20 just east of 35 E.

3:53PM – Tornadoes warning still in effect for the Denton County Texas area but the warning for north east Tarrent County have been lifted. Severe storms are still producing very large hail damaging winds.

3:50PM – New shelter in place warning in Arlington Texas as new twister has been spotted on the ground.

3:47 PM – 911 systems are swamped with multiple sightings of tornadoes in Johnson County as a local officials report multiple touch downs in Cleburne area.

3:43 PM – Dallas police have just reported a funnel cloud has been spotted near Harry Hines and Royal. First responders are reporting downed trees and damaged homes in Arlington.

3:37PM – Reports indicate there are no tornadoes on the ground at this moment but their are reports of severe weather cells and baseball sized hail. Meteorologist warn the severe weather is not over and conditions are still ripe for more tornadoes to develop and touchdown within 2 to 3 minutes.

CNN’s Ed Lavandera, who was in Dallas when the tornado struck, said there were several isolated cells of storms throughout the area.

Lavandara said the track of one tornado would have taken it through a heavily populated area near the stadiums of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers, as well as Six Flags amusement park. If the storm had stayed on the ground there, it would have caused catastrophic devastation, he said.

“We right now are in shelter ourselves,” Red Cross spokesperson Anita Foster told CNN. “Some of our teams that are on the southern end of the metroplex have started making plans for how we are going to respond . … Many people are going to need help.”

She said Red Cross workers would fan out across the area “as soon as it’s safe, as soon as we can get out of our door.”

Foster warned people to heed warning sirens and seek shelter in interior areas of structures.

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport halted all takeoffs and landings until the storm system ends.
CNN meteoroligist said hailstones 3 inches in diameter were being reported. CNN affiliate CBSDFW showed evening-like darkness amid heavy rain at 2:25 p.m. CT.

3:31 PM – CNN reported moments ago trained weather spotters reported a tornado on the ground five miles east of downtown Dallas, Texas. The tornado is moving northeast at 20 mph. Local CBS affiliate has posted some of the first photos of the damage.

3:23PM – Tornado warnings still in effect. There are many isolated cells across the area and as one storm passes another comes right behind it, reports CNN live on the air. KTBS just posted a photo of one of the twisters and quotes CNN as saying the the twisters are growing bigger.

Another tornado is reported to have touched down in the Arlington area following the earlier shelter in place warning.

“Both storms right now are getting bigger. They both have been rotating, and they both have significant possibilities of damage on the ground heading into DFW,” he said.

The weather service urged people in the area to move to a bathroom, closet or hallway on the lowest floor of their buildings and take cover.

3:15 PM – All flights have been grounded at the Dallas-Forth Worth airport. Emergency personnel and the Red Cross are now reported on the ground as video and photos of the damage start to com in. There are still tornadoes on the ground and threats of more tornadoes developing are still being reported.

3:10 PM – CNN has put up video showing dozens of tractors and trailers being tossed hundreds of feed into the sky. Mesquite area shelter in place is still in effect.

3:06 PM – Shelter in place warning issued for the mesquite area.

3:00PM -There have now been reports of multiple tornadoes running up 35 E and and 35 w.

One tornado has dissipated but there are worries that the it could redevelop.

There is currently a storm still on the ground in Arlington.

2:50 PM -Another storm system is rotating further south and has not touched ground yet.

More tornadoes are expected to develop in the area.

KARE 11 reports:

BURLESON, Texas – The National Weather Service says at least two tornadoes have touched down in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and there is at least one report of damage.

Weather service advisories issued Tuesday said storm spotters and radar revealed separate tornadoes south of Dallas and Fort Worth. The weather service says the tornado south of Fort Worth caused “considerable damage” near Cleburne.

Local television footage shows a large funnel cloud moving on the ground near Interstate 35 south of Dallas. The weather service says the “large and extremely dangerous” tornado was near Lancaster about 20 miles south of Dallas and moving north.

Live cameras showed semi-trailers being tossed high into the air, then crashing back down to earth. Aerials of a truck company show complete devastation with millions in damage to trucks and trailers.

The weather service is also reporting other developing tornadoes as a band of severe storms moves through the area.

Tornado creates “very dangerous situation” in Dallas

Several national television networks such as CNN are running live coverage of the storm as it makes it way through Dallas County, Texas.

A tornado warning is in effect until 2:15 p.m. for eastern Dallas County. A tornado watch was in effect for most of the counties in North Texas.

The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore tweeted, “A large and extremely dangerous tornado is moving into eastern portions of the city of Dallas. This is a life-threatening situation.”

Cantore called in a “very dangerous situation fro Dallas metro.”
